On April 2, 2003 HP announced the release of the LaserJet 1300 series desktop laser printers as a replacement for the 1200 series (April 2001). Targeted at budget-conscious businesses requiring fast, reliable monochrome output, the 1300 series offers more features and greater flexibility than the 1200 series printers.

The 1300 features instant-on fusing for a fast, no warm-up delay, has a print speed of up to 20 pages per minute (ppm), a resolution of 1200x1200 REt, and a first-page-out time of under 10 seconds. Two versions are available, a base model and a network-ready version.

Print cartridges are available in both standard (2,500-page) and high-yield (4,000-page) versions, and both contain a smart chip on the waste bin. The cartridge housing is molded with compatibility recesses, and “lock-out” tabs are located on both end plates, all to prevent a 1300 cartridge from being installed in a 1200 printer.
